Carwinion Playing Field Project
Mawnan Parish Council, together with the landscape architects Mei Loci and researchers from the Institute of Cornish Studies at the University of Exeter, are developing a long-term community-led plan for Carwinion Playing Field and the potential adjoining field. This project is supported through Cornwall Council’s Community Capacity Fund.
Our aim is to improve and expand our shared green spaces so that they can meet the needs of the whole community for the next ten to fifteen years.
If you have anything to add or wish to contribute to the plan please email clerk@mawnan.org.uk
The Masterplan

The aim for the project is to create a masterplan that will open up opportunities for the community to secure funding, enabling upgrades to existing facilities and the introduction of new features that will enrich the space. It may also explore extending provision into the neighbouring field to the north, offering even greater benefits for local residents.
The design process will be shaped through close collaboration with local stakeholders and the wider community, ensuring that the proposals reflect shared needs and aspirations. To support this, Exeter University will carry out a Parish-wide survey to better understand how people use the playing field and what improvements would make the greatest difference. By building on existing projects, such as the concept plan at Mawnan Park and previous proposals for a MUGA and clubhouse upgrades, the masterplan will help strengthen community amenities across Mawnan Parish and create a welcoming, vibrant space for everyone to enjoy.
The development of the masterplan will explore two options:
- Proposals for the existing playing field
- Proposals to include the existing playing field as well as the field
located to the north of Carwinion Playing Field
The masterplan will be completed and published by January 2026.
The Survey
To support this, researchers from the Institute of Cornish Studies at the University of Exeter will carry out a Parish-wide survey to better understand how people use the playing field and what improvements would make the greatest difference. By building on existing projects, such as the ‘Mawnan Park’ concept plan for the Junior Playing Field and previous proposals for a MUGA and clubhouse upgrades, the masterplan will help strengthen community amenities across Mawnan Parish and create a welcoming, vibrant space for everyone to enjoy.
Every resident of Mawnan will receive a survey through the post asking what their priorities are for green spaces within the parish. This will need to be completed by 31 October 2025, and responses will be incorporated into the masterplan. It is vital that this plan is community-led, so it reflects the needs and wants of everyone in the parish.
Recent Events
We held the first community engagement event as part of Run Mawnan on Sunday 21st September. Mei Loci were on site to speak to residents and gather input on the facilities they’d like to see — not just on the existing field, but also on the adjacent field the parish council hopes to acquire. Many people were interested in the project, and Mei Loci collected valuable feedback. Thank you to everyone who dropped by, and to Run Mawnan for letting us piggyback on their excellent event! Below are some photos from the day.
