2017 Cornwall Sports Awards
Sponsored by University of Exeter & Truro & Penwith College

Winners of the 2017 Cornwall Sports Awards were announced at the annual event, held at The Headland Hotel, Newquay on Friday 6th November 2017.

The awards saw over 200 of Cornwall's inspiring volunteers, coaches, community groups and organisations come together to help celebrate the amazing achievements and impact theses volunteers have had on people being physically active.

Cornwall School Games wins national award!

This month saw Cornwall win a national award for its School Games programme at the 2017 School Games Summit at Telford International Centre.

The 2017 Cornwall Schools Games programme delivers over 500 events in 32 sports for over 32,000 young people at a qualifying stage which represents 44% of young people within education.

The Games in Cornwall and this recognition is very much down to a partnership approach where all schools, School Games Organisers (SGOs) and the County Sports Partnership all work together to grow, develop and sustain the games each year.

Summit elevates physical activity levels to business critical

Cornwall Sports Partnership

Increasing levels of physical activity has huge potential to impact on a number of outcomes identified as important by the people of Cornwall.

That was the verdict of 150 representatives from a wide range of public, private and third sector organisations interested in the implementation of the Cornwall Physical Activity Strategy.

Delegates heard how raising levels of physical activity can contribute to physical and mental wellbeing as well as much broader outcomes of happiness and prosperity of individuals, families and communities.

Safeguarding update

We are very pleased to be able to report that Tracey Crouch, Sports Minister, announced on Thursday 16th November at DCMS that she has secured ministerial agreement to change the law on positions of trust to include sports coaches.

Anne Tivas, Head of NSPCC's Child Protection in Sport Unit, said: "This announcement is a much-needed step in the right direction but we are keen to hear more about their plans. We will not rest until the Government makes this change which will protect children up and down the country."
