All about the roundabout

March 2017

Hello again, and welcome to the A39 Falmouth Gateway (Treluswell Roundabout) e-newsletter. We aim to keep you informed as much as possible about the work we’re doing on this project, and – more importantly - how it may affect you. We hope you find it useful.

For note this coming month

For the first few months of work (up until around the end of June), most of the work will take place off the road, so there will be little or no disturbance to normal traffic flow. During this time, we are building a new lane joining from the A39 from Truro to the B3292 into Penryn. Once this is complete, the current arm of the roundabout will be closed down and traffic will switch to the new lane.

A new retaining wall is being built at the side of the railway to aid the widening of the new road. This will take up to six months to be completed, but again, won’t disturb normal day-to-day traffic.

Four-way traffic management remains in place at night at certain times of the project when needed.

We're buzzing

A number of people have asked us what we do with the trees that have been cut down from the side of the railway embankment. Often, the wood is stacked and left to decompose, which provides a wonderful refuge for insects and other wildlife and a rich environment for fauna to feed off.

However, we decided to contribute the wood this time to another environmentally-friendly cause and help a local project’s conservation attempts to protect the native Cornish Black honey bee. The wood – over 80 tons of it – will be used by the
Cornish Bee Project to make a bee-friendly log wall. Bees pollinate three-quarters of the world's most important crops, so we’re delighted to be able to help the Cornish contingent on their way.

Keep up to date

Our dedicated Treluswell roundabout webpage is now live. We’ll be adding the latest updates and urgent information here first, plus you can follow the links to the council website to read more of the project’s background, so why not add it to your favourites? There’s also a handy roadworks map showing what’s happening and where, and who is responsible for the works, and how well traffic is flowing. We hope you find it useful.
