Your Path to the Past

The team took a welcome break from the office last week to visit Tintagel, home to the legend of King Arthur. This summer, a new footpath is set to open linking the mainland to Tintagel island where you now see the remains of a castle built in the 13th Century. But the history of this magical place goes back even further...

Across the bog

Walking a boggy section of the Lizard Peninsula will now be much easier thanks to some new granite stepping stones that have been installed. The project at Higher Predannack Cliffs, was completed by Cornwall Council with funding from Natural England. The project cost just over £8,000 and uses boulders from the nearby Porthoustock Quarry to ensure the closest geological continuity. Whilst bothersome to walkers, the boggy area is botanically very interesting, so the steps have been carefully selected to allow the natural water flow to continue across the slope. This will allow nature to flourish, whilst also providing a durable, dry way for walkers.

Walk of the Month

After five years, the section of Coast Path at Talland Bay, which was closed for safety reasons because of an unstable cliff is now open - hurrah! It seems only fitting then, that our walk of the month took in the newly opened section. A big thank you to everyone who was involved in re-establishing access.

Will you step up?

The Step Up appeal is back! Thank you to each and every one of you who donated to last year's appeal. We're currently putting in hundreds of steps all along the Path thanks to your generosity. You can now donate to this year's appeal, where we hope to raise another £10,000 to replace steps that have fallen into disrepair or put in new steps where there aren't any. By donating just £10 you could buy one new step which will enable rangers to install it, which then levers a massive additional £15, per step, worth of ranger power.

Completer of the Month

Some of you will have noticed we have moved our Completer stories onto a new blog, so that those of you who don't have Facebook are able to enjoy reading them too. You can even like, share and post comments! The link to the story we sent out last month wasn't working for some of you though, so we have now fixed this and you can now read Stacia's story here. We are also delighted to share with you this month's Completer story from Chris McQuillan and his dog Moose.
